In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, four churches are coming together for celebration in a joint church service on Sunday, January 20, from 3-6 pm. It is not uncommon for pastors to work together. It is uncommon for various denominations to celebrate a service together.

Four Nashville churches are planning on celebrating a worship service together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. It is the annual MLK Day celebration service at Corinthian Baptist Church on Sunday, Jan 20. Rev. Enoch Fuzz feels this is a historic way to help make the dream a reality.

“We’ve got four churches coming together in a mix of races and faith,” Fuzz said, “and we’ll have our choirs singing together, each pastor leading a part of the service and all congregations worshiping together in one house of God.”

Corinthian Baptist Church had a long history of partnering with the First Unitarian Universalist Church for the MLK Day celebration, beginning this tradition more than 10 years ago. This year, two new churches have been added to the program: the Church of Scientology and the Historic Community Church of Nashville.

“Dr. King stood for diversity and a unity among all people. We are celebrating that in the best way possible—actually coming together in one place and celebrating our differences and similarities,” said Rev. Brian Fesler of the Church of Scientology.

Each church leader will conduct a portion of Sunday’s service. Elder Glenn Clay of the Historic Community Church will preside. Rev. Brian Fesler of the Church of Scientology will give the ‘occasion.’ Rev. Gail Seavey of the First Unitarian Universalist Church will deliver a keynote sermon. Rev. Enoch Fuzz will conduct an altar prayer for peace.

The MLK Celebration service will be held Sunday, Jan 20 from 3-6 pm beginning with a potluck at Corinthian Baptist Church. It is open to the public.
