The Rock and WWE come to town

The Rock

‘The Rock’ — He’s just one of those people who makes you smile when you think about him. A handsome, charismatic, athletic actor and entertainment icon, Dwayne Johnson will be coming back to Nashville next week. The African-Canadian-Samoan charmer also has quite a few more film projects of note coming out this year and next.

Monday Night Raw returns to Bridgestone Arena as the WWE television cameras and Superstars return to Nashville on Monday, February 11 at 6:30 pm. The show airs live on the USA Network from 7-10 pm, Feb. 11. ‘The Most Electrifying Man in Entertainment,’ ‘The Rock’ will be present, live and in living color, at the Bridgestone Arena.

Since March 2004, The Rock had competed in only two sanctioned WWE matches, teaming with John Cena to shred The Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) at Survivor Series 2011 and overcoming the Cenation leader at WrestleMania XXVIII before returning to action on January 27 and claiming the championship of the WWE. But by vying for the most treasured prize in sports-entertainment, The Rock is committing to more than another appearance as a ‘special attraction’—he is setting his eyes on again becoming WWE’s gold standard. The Rock may be introducing a new generation of WWE fans to ‘The People’s Champion.’

The show will also feature several other favorite Raw and Smackdown superstars, and Monday’s lineup may include John Cena, CM Punk, Big Show, Sheamus, Ryback, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, R-Truth, the WWE Divas, and maybe more. The lineup is subject to change. WWE tickets, starting at $15, are available at ticketmaster.com; charge-by-phone 800-745-3000; and at the Bridgestone Arena Box Office.

Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born in Hayward, California on May 2, 1972 to Rocky Johnson and Ata Johnson. Dwayne played football on scholarship at the University of Miami. In 1996, Dwayne joined the WWE and eventually took the persona of The Rock, and later as ‘The Peoples Champion.’ He is divorced from his first wife Dany Garcia. Their daughter, Simone Alexandra, was born in 2001, the year he appeared in The Mummy Returns.

Johnson is even bigger on the silver screen than he is in the wrestling ring. In 2002 he set the record for the highest salary paid to an actor for his first time in the leading role at $5.5 million for The Scorpion King. After doing The Rundown and Walking Tall, he starred in Be Cool. He stole the show in 2008’s Get Smart as Agent 23. In 2010 he appeared in four films and in 2011’s Fast Five. Last year he appeared in Journey 2: the Mysterious Island and Jonny Quest. He will star next year in Hercules: the Thracian Wars opening Aug. 8, 2014.

This year, he stars in Snitch, opening Feb. 22; in G.I. Joe: Retaliation as ‘Roadblock’ opening March 29; in Pain & Gain opening April 26; and The Fast and the Furious 6 opening May 24.
