As of the last week in November, Affordable Housing Resources, Inc. had saved 1,000 middle Tennessee homes from foreclosure through the Hardest Hit Fund program. This program ensured that these families would have a home during the holidays. Some of the recipients joined in a press conference on November 27 to provide a visual for a positive story for the holidays
“Affordable Housing Resources’ effects have kept families in their homes, children in their schools and communities intact. During the Thanksgiving week, many middle Tennessee families had a lot to be thankful for,” said U. S. Congressman Jim Cooper.
Cooper also made reference to a Christmas movie about Ebenezer Scrooge, saying that “Foreclosure is a family disaster and there may have been 1,000 Bob Cratchets, but we thank you Eddie Latimer for this Music City Miracle.”
Eddie Latimer, CEO of Affordable Housing Resources said: “The homeowners that came to us had faithfully paid their mortgage for yours but found themselves in a bind because of lack of work.”
Carol Nelson Davis was elated that Affordable Housing had helped them to stay in the home that they originally helped them to obtain. When her husband’s work had slowed down, she was laid off.
“Money was running low,” she said. “It means the world to me, my husband and my 11 year old son,” Nelson said.
In 2013, Affordable Housing Resources helped more than 500 homeowners. In 2012, the organization saved 351 homes, making it the seventh most effective NeighborWorks America organization in the nation.
Through the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program, Affordable Housing Resources with THDA has also served more than 1,000 additional families facing foreclosure. With this program, the organization worked with homeowners and lenders to restructure mortgages so the homeowners could become current on their payments.
As the economy slowly recovers, Affordable Housing Resources is developing new lending and assistance products to help additional families facing foreclosure. It also recently moved to a new location, 50 Vantage Way in Nashville.
Affordable Housing Resource, Inc. is a chartered member of NeighborWorks America.
