“Soulful Christmas 2” slated for December 14

The Nashville community is invited to attend this sprit-filled, festive celebration of Christmas time at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church at 1300 South Street.
Shoppers are encouraged to take time out from shopping on Saturday, December 14th from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. to receive a blessing and share holiday joy by bringing non-perishable food items.

Singers from several churches have gathered for weeks, practicing and preparing for the presentation of “Soulful Christmas 2.”  Participants from McKendree UMC, Clark Memorial UMC, Greater Bethel, and others have spent many weeks at Greater Bethel under the direction of Sam Robinson and Leonard Morton.  Sam is the Minister of Music at Greater Bethel and Morton is musician and musical director at Clark Memorial.  Both directors are detailed and very well trained with many years of experience, requiring only the best from the combined choirs.  With a great respect for each other, Morton said, “This is a great  opportunity to watch Sam Robinson teach the songs. He does a masterful job in getting choir members to sing and learn songs.”

“I’m excited about the song selections.  When listening to the cd in preparation, I found it to be very enjoyable and it put me in the Christmas spirit,” said one of the singers.

“A Soulful Christmas” was performed, with great success, two years prior.  When the Reverend Steven Handy, pastor of McKendree United Methodist Church, had the desire to bring a community of churches together to celebrate Christmas, thus “A Soulful Christmas” was born.

“‘A Soulful Christmas 2’ is slated to be just as enjoyable and exciting as the first one,” said music directors. “A Soulful Christmas” is somewhat like a cantata, as it is designed to tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ through individual songs and minimum narration.  In a cantata, the story is told and narrated as one piece, however, the Soulful Christmas is a concert of songs, each carrying its own message of Christmas.

The songs selected for this years Soulful Christmas has something for every style of music.  With approximately a dozen songs, from Kirk Franklin to Handels Messiah, the presentation will prove to be very festive as well as spriti-filled.

“A Soulful Christmas 2” will be held at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, located at 1300 South Street in Nashville.
