In mid-November, Gamma Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. hosted its annual Harvest Ball celebration at the Crossings Event Center in Antioch, Tenn. The Harvest Ball is an annual black tie gala that shows appreciation to friends in the community who have shown support for the chapter.
The event was the kick-off to the chapter’s Achievement Week activities. Omega Psi Phi chapters all over the world observe Achievement Week in November, in recognition of individuals at the local and international level who have contributed to community uplift.
Brothers from the chapter worshiped together at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church in Nashville. Later that evening, Gamma Phi held their Founders Day program at the church to celebrate the fraternity’s 102nd anniversary.
Gamma Phi’s 2013 selection for Citizen of the Year and Omega Man of the Year are Brother Carlos Suggs and Brother Clint Boyd, Jr. respectively. Brother Suggs has been an Omega for more than 30 years. In addition to the community service he provides through Gamma Phi’s projects, he also serves as the chaplain for the Omega chapter in Dyersburg, Tenn., Gamma Iota Iota Chapter. Suggs was recognized for his outreach efforts to keep many informed of people in need of prayer.
Brother Clint Boyd, Jr. is the immediate past chaplain of Gamma Phi Chapter where he served four consecutive terms. In his tenure, he spearheaded several notable benevolence programs including a restoration, repair and maintenance service for widows of Gamma Phi brothers, and a monthly prayer call for members of the fraternity across the nation and internationally.
Gamma Phi also participated in a joint service project with the Omega chapters in Hendersonville (Omega Lambda Lambda), Murfreesboro (Pi Gamma Gamma), Clarksville (Psi Pi) and Bowling Green, Ky. (Theta Alpha Alpha) visiting Riverbend Maximum Security Prison for an Empowerment Session with the inmates.
A reclamation event was held at the chapter’s fraternity house on Thursday, November 21, 2013.
Gamma Phi concluded Achievement Week by collecting and donating food and clothing items to local homeless shelters.
