Domestic violence is not just a woman’s issue.

The community should make plans to gather at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church, 1014 14th Ave. N. to obtain information, discuss and understand more about the many facets of domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Saturday will be held on October 25 from 10 am to 2 pm. The event is a collaboration of the United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men of Clark Memorial.

The forum will feature a personal testimony from a survivor of domestic violence and a panel that will include representatives from the Metropolitan Police Department, the YWCA, the Office of the District Attorney General, the Tennessee Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the General Commission on United Methodist Men.

The panel facilitator will be Garlinda Burton, the former general secretary of the United Methodist General Commission on the Status and Role of Women.

Because this issue is very important in our youth community, the program will also feature a youth track on healthy relationships. Dr. Sheila Peters, associate professor and ‘psychology discipline coordinator’ at Fisk University will lead this portion of the forum.

The forum is free and open to the public. Registration will begin at 9:30 am. Refreshments will be served.

“We are excited about this collaboration between the men and the women of Clark Memorial and the involvement of the youth in such an aggressive and important issue,” said Marilyn Magee Talbert, president of Clark Memorial’s United Methodist Women.
