Understanding the Gospel

Rev. William Watson
Rev. William Watson

There are two ways to read the Bible. One way is to read it as though it is basically about you, and what you have to do in order to be right with God. In which case you will never have a sure and certain hope about your future. You will always feel you are never living up to all you could be. Or you can read it as being all about Jesus Christ. Then you will know that every single thing is not about what you must do to be right with God, but what Jesus has done to make you absolutely right with God. We must learn to read the Bible right so we can understand what Jesus Christ is saying about our salvation by Grace, which gives the assurance of hope, the future guarantee of peace, and the ability to face anything.

The word of God will manifest itself in you with divine power to the soul, ending any self-complacency and shattering all self-righteousness. The word will reveal the sufficiency of Christ to meet your needs and divinely strengthen your faith with a love for God and an appetite for spiritual things longing for holiness and seeking the conformity of Jesus Christ.

The word through the power of the Holy Spirit will convince you to repent and humbly confess all your transgressions. When the Spirit becomes your witness, you will receive a new nature. Thus the knowledge of God’s salvation, His grace and His election makes you a child of God compelled to tell somebody else.
