Many of us played with a rubber man while growing up. We would hit the rubber man, and no matter what we did to it, it would still pop up and remain standing. We learned that whatever happened to the outside of the rubber man did not matter, because the rubber man had something on the inside that would not let it stay down. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil,” Ephesians 6:10. So Paul tells us to put on the armor of God and stand. Whatever we go through in this life, we should stand our ground. There are so many things that come against us that seek to knock us to the floor.
How many of us have experienced rejection, disappointment, or the hurtful loss of a love one? We know how these events can knock us out. Paul encourages, and lets us know whatever happens, we must stand our ground. How many of us know the awful feeling of sin? It can knock us down.
Temptation can make us lose ground in our faith and our walk with Jesus Christ. When it arises, we need to stand firm. We need to stand firm against all sin. It will get in a few good punches. It can deal us a left and right hook, and cause us to wobble and stumble, but we must hang on to those ropes called grace and mercy. We must let them lift us up. We must stand and get back in the fight. With God’s help, we will be able to stand and give those evil spirits that seek to take us down a knock out. Keep on standing regardless of the circumstances.
What is so wonderful about God is that he always gives us something to hold onto to keep us from falling. Things will happen in our lives that will try to make us trip and fall, but all we have to do is take hold of God’s word and stand.
We must remember there are times we must stand alone. People around us may choose to give into fears, disconsolation, and sinful behaviors. But be encouraged. Stand. Put on the armor of God, his truth, righteousness, and faith, and stand.
We are able to stand our ground, and because of the ground we stand. We are standing on the promises of God. We are standing on a solid foundation. We are standing on our prayers and the prayers of others.
We are standing on the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. We are standing on the rock of Jesus Christ. As the songwriter said: “On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.” After all we have been through, we can testify—I am still standing.
The devil may huff and puff and try to blow the house down, but we will stand.
