It’s that special time of year again for local fans of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comics to celebrate and party all weekend at the Sheraton Music City. Area geeks are geared up for the 48 Hours of Cool that only GMX can bring… are you ready? Now in its seventh big year, the growth of GMX has been explosive, setting the stage for GMX, Vol. Seven, Friday Oct. 30 through Sunday Nov. 1.
GMX is an educational and multi-media entertainment showcase presented by a Nashville-based not-for-profit corporation, which, like GMX’s sister event MTAC – Middle Tennessee Anime Convention, is operated entirely by a volunteer staff. You can expect great things from this year’s special guests, panels, exhibits, Cosplay Contest, and other events.
Why is it called GMX? The name GMX derives from the definitions of (1) Geek: a person who has excessive enthusiasm for and some expertise about a specialized subject or activity; (2) Media: the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines, that reach or influence people widely; and (3) Expo: a large-scale public exhibition or show. So, put them together, mix well, stir and serve for 48 Hours of Cool! Are you ready to imbibe?
Each year GMX selects a worthy charity to sponsor, and this year GMX is partnering with Big Fluffy Dog Rescue. This amazing organization is dedicated to helping dogs in need by removing them from bad situations, helping them heal, and finding them new and loving forever homes. Headquartered right here in Nashville, TN, Big Fluffy Dog Rescue reaches across the USA in its quest to help dogs of all breeds, with a specific focus on larger dogs. Their volunteers work countless hours not only fostering the dogs while they prepare for their new families, but also by helping to transport them to their new homes. This year GMX will sponsor several fundraising projects, and collect items to be donated.
Three Must-See panels at GMX: Friday at 10 pm, “1965 – The Year in Sci-Fi”; Saturday at 7 pm, “Marvel Cinematic Universe”; and Sunday at 2 pm (Central Standard Time) “Contract Killers.”

Meet GMX Special Guest Allyssa Lewis
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Allyssa Lewis has spent the last two decades nurturing her creativity in Atlanta, Georgia. By day, she uses her BFA in animation from Savannah College of Art Design toward character animating for Floyd County Productions on FX’s Emmy nominated series “Archer”. By night and weekend, she is the CEO and Founder of the new animation resource and staffing agency, My Animation Life (MAL). The multitude of which her knowledge spanned is greatly owed to her seven year service as the Vice-President of ASIFA Atlanta (one of the largest animation societies in the southeastern United States). While she is most noted for her 2D and stop motion animation, Allyssa also takes pleasure in experimental animation and mixed media illustration.
