Floetry — back again

Floetry
Floetry

In 2015, Floetry finally reunited after a long hiatus as a group to pursue solo careers. The two ladies toured all over the world giving their adoring fans what they had been waiting several years for, as the two hit stages and blazed them like never before. The two will continue to tour this year and will release new music as a group once again, with a new album in the pipeline. This includes another stop at the City Winery next Wednesday night. This will be their second time at the elegant establishment in less than a year. They blessed Music City with an epic showcase last summer. Be on the lookout for them to spring it up this time out.

Floetry is an English R&B duo comprising Marsha Ambrosius (the ‘songstress’) and Natalie Stewart (the ‘floacist’). The group recorded two studio albums, and one live album and sold over 1.5 million records worldwide. Formed in 1997, Floetry started on the performance poetry stage. In 2002, they signed with DreamWorks Records and released their debut album Floetic, which featured the singles ‘Floetic,’ ‘Say Yes’ and ‘Getting Late.’ Floetic sold more than 700,000 copies in the U.S. alone. ‘Say Yes‘ and ‘Getting Late‘ became top 10 hits. The album was also released in the U.K. with additional tracks. Their song ‘Where’s The Love’ was featured in the film Bringing Down the House.

After achieving success both in the charts and on the underground scene, Floetry released their live album Floacism, featuring the single ‘Wanna B Where U R’ (‘This Is A Love Song’). In the late ‘90s, the seven-time nominated Grammy Award duo first began to capture attention in the U.K. After moving to the U.S., their ‘poetic delivery with musical intent’ lyrical style sparked the attention of DJ Jazzy Jeff. The ladies soon began recording with the Philly native. The neo-soul duo also emerged as songwriters in demand. They’re well known for writing some of the biggest hits for Jill Scott, Michael Jackson, Bilal, and Glenn Lewis. They maintained a high level of respect behind the scenes, but eventually, they moved to the front. Now, Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart are joining forces for their second, Floetry, North American Tour since their reunion was confirmed in 2014. Then the ladies surprised the industry as they reunited for an impromptu performance of their first single ‘Floetic.’

In a recent interview, Ambrosius said: “It’s just time. Why not reconnect? Why not do it all over again?” They have been confirmed to perform at 20+ venues, including one in Newark, New Jersey with Mint Condition.

“It’s all for the fans,” said Stewart.
