Two organizations will come together on August 6th to bring awareness, advocacy and action to those victimized by domestic violence. Successful Survivors Community Development Organization and Greater Heights Missionary Baptist Church are taking a lead on addressing the problem of domestic violence with a Domestic Violence Conference/Workshop to be held at Greater Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 14th Ave. N. in Nashville, TN. The conference will be held from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
The collaborative goal states “No More Missed Opportunities to assist those being battered. Successful Survivors Community Development Organization and Greater Heights Missionary Baptist Church join together to bring awareness, advocacy, and action toward the plight of those victimized by Domestic Violence.”
The Nashville Davidson County office of the District Attorney reports an average of 35 domestic violence arrest daily in Nashville. As the city grows and tempers flare, the problem increases. “Let’s help give assistance to those who need it in their homes, families and relationships,” states organizers of the workshop.
Those in attendance will receive information from many of Nashville’s leaders from organizations and from those who have been victims of domestic violence and share their story in regards to moving forward. It is the intent of the workshop to “learn how you can effect change,” states Curtis Bryant, pastor of Greater Heights.
The speakers on the agenda will be: Andrea Thompson,Advocate Against Domestic Violence; Michelle Mowery Johnson, YWCA’s DV Division; Capt. Michelle Richter, Metro Police’s DV Division; Centoria Franklin, Pass the Beauty; Cindy Cossey, Judicial Branch of Metro Courts; Tim Dickerson, the Metro District Attorney’s office.
