Who can forget Charla Young, the beautiful lady with the infectious smile, who founded the national and international ‘Power to Exhale’ (P2E) movement? Well in case you were not aware, the annual P2E Power Up Summit took place in Louisville, Ky. Now for the added convenience of members, the international Power Up Summit will take place this Saturday, November 12, in chapter cities across the nation.
The Nashville, Tennessee chapter event will be held at the Ford Ice Arena located at 5264 Hickory Hollow Parkway, Antioch, Tenn. from 10 am to noon, CDT, and the attire is casual. Organized by Nashville Power Diva Jackie Stewart, with strong support from Power Diva Kamara Glenn Harris and assistance from Brittany Slaughter, this chapter’s Power Up Summit will be on point as always. The Power to Exhale movement exists to establish a community of love, support and positivity for all women of all ages, all races and all financial and socio-economic backgrounds.
“Our motto is ‘I am my Sister’s Keeper,’ said Carla Young, founder/CEO. “Instead of hating and backbiting on other women, we do the following: we love them in spite of their past; we support them because they deserve it; we uplift them so they can reach their truest potential; we pray for them because prayer changes things; and we empower them, because there is progress with power. We don’t care where you live or work. We don’t care what you have in your bank account or what your husband does for a living or even if you have a husband. All we care about is you.”
The group has well over 15,120 members and is still growing. P2E’s membership drive is ongoing and the group is looking forward to hosting both confirmed and new members to the chapter and overall movement. Attendees can look forward to fun, fellowship and event speakers, including: Natasha Clay, Choices Program care coordinator; Nicole L. Wade, freelance director of public relations and professional writer; motivational speaker Thierre Patterson Davis; and the stylings of artist/poetess Summer J.
The Nashville chapter is all set to ‘power up, re-charge and refresh’ and looking forward to it all. I’m not only a proud member of P2E, I’m honored to be the PR Diva (PR manager) for the group. It’s been a real life changer and has put new meaning to the words: ‘I am my sister’s keeper!’
Why join? Why power up? With the main holiday season right around the corner, it’s important to have support, compassion and camaraderie. The diversity, love and teamwork of this group has helped me push my growth and development beyond measure. Having moved to the Middle Tenn. in 2014 and being new to Nashville with those various changes was enough. After my friend Natasha Clay asked me to join, I can say that I’ve literally found a whole new band of ‘sistars’ (sisters and stars combined, equals ‘sistars’). It has increased my awareness and willingness on ‘how to be my sisters keeper.’
