A recent joint open house and networking reception was held by Vivian Wilhoite, Tennessee’s first African American Property Assessor; Brenda Wynn, Davidson County Clerk and Davison County Trustee; and Charlie Cardwell at the Fulton Complex Conference Center of the Howard Building in South Nashville. It was a well-attended success.

The guests included political and community leaders, clergy or their representatives, media affiliates and lay people. Amid the easy listening music and healthy open buffet, there were many hugs of appreciation for the leaders and the work they’ve put into the city and what is forthcoming.

Each of the three hosts graciously stopped for photographs and eye contact handshakes and introductions. None of them had a problem explaining their job description and thankfulness for being elected to their respective positions.

With not a hint of any stuffy politics, the atmosphere was more like a family gathering at a barbeque. It was a refreshing change for many indeed. Cool exotic looking punches and basic bottles of water accompanied the fresh fruit and veggies, homemade chess squares, and other desserts—keeping the lines long but worth it.

Each host invited people back for personal visits, passing out their business cards and making their staff available to handle any current or future needs under their leadership. One attendee was overhead saying: “What a mid-week pick me up huh? This is one of the best politic networking events I’ve attended.”
