The ‘Roberta Baines Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness’ group will proudly host its inaugural ‘Her Life, Our Legacy Jazz Brunch’ on May 20. It’s a very special day honoring mothers who are gone but not forgotten, further demonstrating that Mother’s Day is year round, and not just for ‘belly button’ moms either. The event will be held at the Alive Hospice at 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, Tenn. 37203.

“Mothers Day has a different meaning after the loss of a mother,” said Executive Director Dr. Katherine Y. Brown. “It’s a journey that in some instances is unique to those who have experienced it. This event is celebrating the lives of mothers who have passed and developing a healthy community of shared experiences.”

Angela Mitchell, CEO of the Nashville International (BNA) Airport-based full service salon ‘NaSahs,’ is a member of the inaugural planning team and event sponsor in honor of her mother.

“My mother taught me everything except how to live without her,” said Mitchell. “This journey of growth while grieving has lead me to the point of sharing memories and miles with others who truly understand.”

Another inaugural planning team member and sponsor, Allyson Young (Consultant, YMG Enterprises LLC), said: “Mother’s Day can be an exciting time of year as we celebrate our own mothers and as we are celebrated as mothers. It can also be a time of fond reflection of cherished mothers who have transitioned. This year I joined Dr. Katherine Y. Brown and other visionary women in planning a special event to give children of all ages, men and women, an opportunity to honor the legacy of their mothers as well as continue healing from their loss. We hope to produce this special and unique event on a yearly basis.”

Dr. Brown is known for many community and high profile accomplishments, including her award winning Dr. Katherine Y. Brown Leadership Academy. The girls and women in her esteemed academy are an extension of her family. Community is quite important to this visionary. She has combined legacy with history, education grace and talent, in efforts to launch another level of present and future greatness. With a vision to expand the leadership capacity of women in preparation for service to the global marketplace of the future, Roberta Baines Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Group’s mentorship program, the Dr. Katherine Y. Brown Leadership Academy is on a positive trajectory to make an impact in the Nashville community and abroad.

The 10 am, May 20, event at Alive Hospice includes: keynote speaker Harriet Vaughn Wallace of Fox 17 News; live jazz; free full breakfast buffet; gift bags; and a ‘rose ceremony’ special tribute to those who have passed.
