As the summer slips away into autumn, the month of August brings hot treats for art lovers in the Music City. Among the offerings are an Art Deco Affair, a free classic car show, and free weekend art crawls.
An Art Deco Affair at the Frist Art Center is Saturday, August 12, from 7:00–10:00 p.m. Co-chairs Carolyn Griffin and Jessica Kinnard invite you to celebrate the Golden Age of Glamour while supporting the care of the Frist’s 1930s art deco building. Enjoy light bites provided by Morph Hospitality Group, cocktails, and music by DJ AyDamn. Your ticket ( $65 per person ) gives you access to hands-on activities in the award-winning Martin ArtQuest Gallery and exclusive talks about Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection, Pattern Recognition: Art and Music Videos in Middle Tennessee, State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now, and Vadis Turner: Tempest.

The Nashville Symphony – in conjunction with the Lane Motor Museum – will kick off Jay Leno’s appearance at Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Sunday, August 13 with a free display of rare and unusual automobiles from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. In recognition of Leno’s love of classic cars, the Symphony has invited auto collectors from across Middle Tennessee to display their vehicles beginning at 3 p.m. on One Symphony Place, directly in front of Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
More than a dozen cars from around the world will be featured, ranging from pre-World War II classics to ’50s and ’60s sports models to modern “muscle” cars. Many of the automobiles have appeared at car shows throughout the country, and some are valued at more than six figures. Cars scheduled to be displayed include 1929 Packard 645 Deluxe Eight Dietrich Phaeton, 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500, 1952 Lincoln Coupe Panamericana, 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S, 1987 Lamborghini Countach, 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E, 1952 Aston Martin DB2, 1957 Ford Thunderbird, 1933 Dymaxion Replica, 1931 Auburn 8-98A, 1963 Jaguar E-Type, 1971 Datsun 240Z, 1969 AMC AMX, and 1938 Tatra T97. Leno, host of the Emmy Award-winning Jay Leno’s Garage, will perform at the Schermerhorn for the first time at 7:30 p.m. that evening, bringing the same unique comedy that helped him to dominate late-night television for more than two decades. Great seats for the concert are still available.
