Are you sure you can vote?

pic for vote storyA Justice for All Weekend will be held at Limelight, 201 Woodland Street, Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. The weekend will kick off with ‘Check Your Voter Status.’ From 5-7 pm, during ‘Happy Hour,’ citizens can come by and enjoy 3-4-1 specials and buffet.

There are often issues that may have happened when an individual was younger when he or she may have made a bad decision preventing them from voting. This decision may have followed that individual for a long time over the years. It could prevent them from exercising their right to vote. This event is designed to check the status of those individuals and see if there is anything that can be done to return their right to vote.

‘Justice for All Weekend’ will continue on Saturday, November 18, with a Job Fair with over 20 employers present. Along with the job fair, there will also be a Record Expungement and Information Session taking place from 9 am-noon. If you learn that there is a situation with your voter registration status, or if you know you possibly have an issue in your records, legal assistants will be available to assist with information helping to rectify those situations.

There is ‘justice for all.’ However, it is the responsibility of the individual to check their voting status and issues that can possibly be expunged from records. It may be a simple process that keeps individuals from exercising their rights.

“You will be surprised at some of the issues that can be resolved by just checking,” said state Rep. Brenda Gilmore, one of the organizer’s of ‘Make Sure You Can Vote in 2018’ and ‘Justice for All.’

To attend the Record Expungement Clinic, one must RSVP by November 15 by e-mail to <justiceforallnashville@gmail.com>.

Justice For All Weekend is presented by Limelight; Rep. Brenda Gilmore; Delta Sigma Theta, Nashville Alumnae Chapter; Joy Kimbrough, attorney; Howard Gentry Criminal Court Clerk; the Urban League of Middle Tennessee; and Tillman Payne, attorney.
