Basketball
The 2018 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Basketball Media Day was held on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the DoubleTree in Evansville, Indiana. The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the OVC Media Preseason Poll, released by the OVC office. In women’s voting, Tennessee State was picked 10th out of the 12 teams. The poll, voted on by media members who cover OVC basketball, picked the Belmont men’s and women’s teams as the preseason favorites.

The TSU Tigers men’s basketball team, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Brian “Penny” Collins, return six letter winners including starting point guard Armani Chaney. Over the last three seasons, TSU has won 52 games – one of the best three-year runs in the program’s Division I history.

The Tigers will be kicking off the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Lipscomb. This year’s 30-game regular season schedule includes 13 home games and 17 road games with stops in California, Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee, including non-conference tests at Kentucky, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Akron.

The TSU women’s basketball team returns eight letterwinners from last year’s team, including four starters, while eight newcomers joined the program. The Lady Tigers will kick-off the season with a match-up at Lipscomb on November 9.

The 2018-19 TSU women’s basketball schedule includes an exempt tournament that will see the Lady Tigers face three opponents in downtown Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium. The Lady Tigers will take on Arkansas, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh during the Challenge in Music City Thanksgiving Tournament November 23-25.

The TSU football Tigers have three games remaining on the regular season schedule, all of which are OVC games. They return to action for their final road game at Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Nov. 3; kickoff is at 1 p.m. CDT. The Tigers finish the season with back-to-back contests at home in Hale Stadium on the TSU campus: Jacksonville State, at 2 p.m. CST Nov. 10 and UT Martin at 2 p.m. CST on Senior Day, Nov. 17.
