Expressions of faith: Plan of God

Dr. Monterey D. Lee, Sr.

“Whatever you do, do it with your whole heart as to the Lord and not to man,” Colossians 3:23.

What happens when you just don’t know which way God wants you to go? As a Christian, of course, you want to make decisions according to God’s will. Sooner or later in life, everyone must make some decisions. Which college should I go to? Whom should I marry? Should I move here or there? The list goes on and on as the questions grow bigger and more life challenging. Shouldn’t God answer the plan for your life and so you may be clear of His will?

Colossians 3:23 is the key verse. It’s not always so important what we do, but why and how we do it. Are you doing it wholeheartedly because you want to please the Lord? Are there a few selfish reasons behind your decision? “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find, knock, and it will be opened unto you,” Matthew 7:7.  God is more than willing to show us His will and plan for our lives, but He also wants us to show that we want to know it and follow it.

So if you are asking, seeking, knocking and doing everything as to the Lord, then you can rest assured that He will show you His will for your life. It can be difficult sometimes to hear God’s voice and know which road to take. You pray to God and ask for help but there are often no prophetic dreams, visions, or strong feelings leading you one way or another. It can seem like God isn’t answering you at all.

Many Christians struggle with this because we almost expect a loud voice from heaven when we talk to God, complete with trumpets and a burst of sunshine. God doesn’t necessarily work that way. Often He works in whispers instead of shouts. The way we practice listening is to go in faith and do everything before His presence. His will may not always be what we expect, and it can be revealed to us in unexpected ways. If we are truly interested, we will find out. To fulfill God’s plan for your life one cannot be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good, acceptable and the perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). Whatever the outcome when looking, seeking, and praying for God’s plan, you may find that what you did in the past was training you for where you’re going now.

Explore how God’s will challenges and empowers us to live 100% according to His will, so that we no longer feel unfulfilled—but ready to live a life of victory.
