We have all probably heard the phrase “It’s better to give than to receive.” On October 23, Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, attended a luncheon hosted by Mai Olive Lusk. Ms. Lusk is a retired 1st grade teacher and active Ocho Rio Bridge player.
In the many years that Ms. Lusk has hosted a variety of these themed gatherings for Easter, Halloween or Christmas in the past, guests would have lunch and return home to find a menagerie of props in accordance with the theme. For several years, she had hundreds of items to reflect the magic of Christmas, most noted as the season of giving and receiving of gifts. Guests would peruse the downstairs of her home where each room was filled with signs of Christmas: trees, snowmen, bells, moving carolers, Santas, reindeer, stars, nativity scenes and much more. The same would be true for Easter and Halloween.
Each celebration, such as this past Saturday’s adventure, lunch was provided at Swett’s Restaurant with her usual live music from Gerald Dixon and a program of ‘gift giving.’ Guests are never asked to bring anything, only to dress for the occasion.
Rev. Fuzz was the honored guest, and he gave a brief sermon on faith. Now, to give of your time and your talent is something often done in the church and in one’s community.
Throughout Rev. Fuzz’s journey, he has continued to give of his time and his talent in ministry. Mai Olive Lusk not only gives people the joy of sharing a meal with one another, but guests also receive monetary gifts along with a parting dessert as a sweet treat. Without fail, touching the lives of people a few at a time as Lusk does is an important ministry. Mai Lusk consistently gives an experience with each gathering as Rev. Fuzz consistently gives an experience in ministry.
To give is a blessing. Receive your blessings with joy, knowing that the giver is receiving that same joy.
When preparing these articles each week, Rev. Fuzz wanted to share his luncheon experience at the gathering of Mai Olive Lusk. As a part of his journey with stage four lung cancer, Rev. Fuzz gives a lot of time to many people before he retreats to his home to rest. The giving during this journey is a blessing to so many just to literally see him. Some people refer to him as a walking testimony or a walking miracle.
