Have you ever wondered why some people do one thing so well and others do another thing so well? Of course, you have. While some people may have to learn to do something, there are others that are ‘born’ to do it. It is considered ‘natural’ for them. It just seems easy for some to do certain things.
But just like making plans for your life, it’s not always up to you. Rev. Enoch Fuzz is pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, and for the past two weeks (as at other times also) his journey with cancer was a highlight for individuals who have crossed paths with him as he did his job despite everything. Fuzz exemplifies the notion that our lives are our missions. For example, Mai Olive Lusk had not passed away at the time the last installation of ‘Cancer: My Journey…’ was written; however, following her luncheon on that Saturday, who knew it would be her final opportunity to demonstrate her legacy of giving by recognizing July birthdays in her group of bridge players—a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority? Birthdays were recognized for granddaughter Sarah and great-grandson Lazarus caretakers from Richland Place and two roommates from the same facility.
Why is this important in speaking about Rev. Fuzz and his journey with stage four lung cancer? It was always important for M.O. Lusk to recognize individuals and their contributions to humanity. It is the same with Rev. Fuzz. It is always important to him that he recognizes individuals in the community. Even through his illness, his journey began with the recognition of the doctors that care for him—an encouragement to understand the competency of Metro Nashville General Hospital and its programs. He continually speaks about the plethora of individuals and organizations in the Nashville community and how they can assist in offering assistance to the needs of citizens in every area of life. People may wonder how he does it and how he has so many resources and contacts with people like the vice mayor and so many other government officials and leaders in the community—not to mention how he became a community leader himself.
Rev. Fuzz continues to battle with a variety of health issues that stem from his journey with stage four lung cancer. He might request highlighting community issues and individuals, but he often has health issues of his own. Last week he had to visit the hospital after encountering shortness of breath and chest pain.
“The doctor changed my blood clotting medicine to something stronger,” Rev. Fuzz said. “It’s gonna be something I’ll have to learn to live with. Blood clots are a part of this type of cancer, so I’ve got to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. My life belongs to God, not me!”
As initially mentioned, sometimes things are not up to ‘self.’ It is up to God and what he has planned for your life. Continue to pray for Rev. Fuzz and complete healing. Your prayers may be a part of your life’s mission as it is a part of Rev. Fuzz’s. He continues to pray for you also.
