As we continue to learn the lessons of faith, grace, mercy, love, favor and a plethora of God’s words, we must sometimes go back to the simple things in life. Growing up and not knowing where life was going to lead, there were things we learned in grade school that were necessary to help us grow. Can you remember reciting or singing your ‘A, B, Cs’ as an exercise to learn the alphabet at the request of an adult or just as it popped into your head?
The alphabets, a.k.a., the ‘;ABCs,’ are as important as knowing God’s word. These are both, once learned, an instinctual part of one’s knowledge. When the word of God becomes instinct, one randomly hear people whisper ‘Oh God’ or just utter the word ‘Jesus.’ Those types of utterances are embedded without thinking, just like the use of the alphabet.
Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, has returned to his pulpit on a few Sundays as he continues to deal with stage four lung cancer and all of the situations that accompany the illness. On this past Sunday, he recited his ‘ABCs’ as a witness to how Jesus is the answer.
Rev. Fuzz reminded the congregation the letters can stand for A) Amazing grace; B) Best thing; C) Caring; D) This is the Day; E); Every time I turn around; F) Faith; G) Glad I’ve got Jesus; H) Hold to His Hand; I) I am that I am; J) Joy; K) Keep my heart and keep my tongue keep my soul I pray—keep me every day; L) Let me lean on you Lord; M) O’ Mary don’t weep. Tell Martha not to mourn; N) Not a friend like the Jesus, No not one—No, no, no, not one; O) Oh, how I love Jesus; P) Pray on, my child; Q) God is the Question, but He’s also the answer; R) Yes, God is Real; S) Stand still and see the salvation; T) I’m Too close. I can almost see his face; U) Understanding; V) Verily, verily I say unto you; W) Wheel in the middle of a wheel; X) He’s an X-ray; Y) I say, Yes, yes, yes to Your will and to Your way; Z) I’m bound for Mt Zion.
“…Now I know my ABCs, next time won’t you sing with me.” We learn our ABCs, and trust in all that they mean in creating words, names, sentences, paragraphs. We never think about the importance of the alphabet. Jesus is the answer. Take the time sometimes to say your religious alphabets, like “G: Glad I got Jesus!” And “P: continue to Pray!”
