There is a lot that can be said about birthdays. Just as with all other ‘holidays,’ the date of birth rolls around every 12 months. And there is likely a celebration! No matter where we are in life, what we’re doing or what the world is doing—that special day is going to come up in the 12 months. It can also boldly be said that it is a blessing to have another birthday.
On October 1, Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian MBC, will celebrate his 67th birthday just as he has for the past several years—that is, with the public. A few years ago, his church members, friends, family, and the community began celebrating their pastor on his special day by inviting the public to come out and celebrate with a block party. At times the celebration has been held by the side of the church, sometimes across the street and in the parking area. Following the changes made by the pandemic, he has celebrated at the Elliston Place Soda Shop. Again this year, the party will take place outside (block party style) at Elliston Place Soda Shop, 2105 Elliston Place, from 2:30-4 pm. There will be food, fun, friends, and fellowship as members of the community, elected officials, family, friends and church members express their love and recognition for Rev. Fuzz on his birthday.
There is more to celebrate than his birthday this year. Rev. Fuzz will also celebrate with a Pastor’s Appreciation Sunday, October 2, with 49 years in ministry and 41 years as the pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. There will be a special appreciation program at Corinthian, 819 33rd Ave. N. on Sunday, October 2, in his honor.
Rev. Fuzz is being celebrated, but he experiences bittersweet excitement. Celebrations will take place as he finds himself still on his journey with stage four lung cancer. He still faces the unending challenges brought on from this disease (along with his current situation with the healing of his vocal cords). He has back pain and again the need for oxygen. Nevertheless, he is still full of life, hope and prayers. “I’ll be 67 years old on my birthday and according to the doctor, I’m expected to live to age 91 at the least,” said Rev. Fuzz.
Those in prayer for Rev. Fuzz are encouraged to donate financial gifts for his birthday to be used to help pay hospital, medical and prescription drug expenses. One can make a contribution by cash, check or Cash App to $Fuzz33rd. The public is invited to celebrate.
“Come to the best birthday in the whole wide world,” said Rev. Fuzz. “There will be dancing in the street! Come on and party with me.”
