The TN House of Representatives District 52 Special Election calendar has been released by the Davidson County Election Commission. This is to fill the seat forcibly vacated by Justin Jones on April 6. Only voters who live in District 52 will be eligible to vote, and only their precincts will be open for this special election primary, along with the Davidson County Election Commission offices.
There will be a House of Representatives District 52 Special Primary with its designated Election Day of June 15. After that Primary, there will be a TN House of Representatives District 52 Special Election with the designated Election Day of August 3. August 3 is also the date of the Metropolitan General Election for Mayor, Vice Mayor, Council Members At Large (5), and Council Members (Districts 1 – 35).
Early Voting for the House of Representatives District 52 Special Primary begins on May 26 and runs through June 10. Early Voting for the House of Representatives District 52 Special Election begins on July 14 and runs through July 29.
April 18 was the first day to pick up the petition for the House of Representatives District 52 Special Primary. The District 52 Special Election was made necessary due to the dramatic overreach of the Republican supermajority in expelling duly elected representative Justin Jones, along with Memphis area legislator for District 86 Justin J. Pearson. Both men were unanimously appointed by their local councils to return to the legislature within one week of the event which had captivated the nation.
At press time, no dates had been set for a similar process involving District 86. That will be determined by the Shelby County Election Commission. The general election for the Tennessee House District 86, held on March 14, was a first of its kind for Shelby County, because they only had a single candidate on the ballot, Justin Pearson!
