Expressions of faith

Bishop-Elect Dr. Monterey D. Lee, Sr.

“Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert,” Isaiah 43:18-19.

God speaks to Isaiah, telling him to give a word of comfort to the children of Israel: The Creator is speaking a word of promise for your life—a unique move, a unique state that is just for you. Don’t focus on the former things nor consider the things of old. People of Judah, don’t be afraid of Babylon’s armies or of being enslaved. God will point you in a new direction for your life, for this is His promise. God has brought you out of captivity into His promises of deliverance, not just for your body but for your soul—a change from idolatry to the omniscience [knowledge/knowing] and the omnipotence [the unlimited power] of God. Israel will be delivered out of Babylon. What He did for your fathers and your family in Egypt, He will do it for you. Don’t look at your old man or stay there.

The only reason you where in captivity was so you could repent and seek God’s mercy. But at one point, you provoked God with your sins. Now you have come to your senses. Now God has corrected you for your disobedience and you have a change of heart. God will not abandon you, nor will He destroy you. Jacob and Israel have been redeemed and possess God’s grace.

God told the Israelites that where sin did abound, grace did much more abound. All He needs you to do is come back to the covenant with Him—back in the right relationship with Him. Don’t worry about the chariots and the horses. Don’t worry about the Babylonian armies. Don’t worry about them, for ‘I have overcome them, and the way is already made. So don’t be afraid; I am with you. Forget what happened before, and do not think about the past. Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don’t you see it? Roads are in the desert for your direction and rivers in the dry land to quench your thirst. There is bread from heaven for you each day, and a savior Jesus Christ who will make all things possible because the way is already made. I will bring your children from the West. I will say, North, give them up. South, don’t hold them back, and East bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth. Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory, whom I, have formed and made will come. For the way is already made. It is done!’ (Romans 5:20).
