The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) has credentialed the Nashville Fire Department as a State Type 1 Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high yield Explosives (CBRNE) team.
This prestigious designation signifies the department’s exceptional capabilities in handling hazardous materials and dangerous situations.
With over four decades of experience in hazardous materials response, the Nashville Fire Department has been at the forefront of protecting the community since 1978.
However, this recent credentialing from TEMA marks a significant milestone in their commitment to ensuring public safety.
“The Nashville Fire Department has had a HazMat team since 1978, making NFD’s team one of the first in the country.” NFD and Nashville Office of Emergency Management Director Chief William Swann said. “With this first-of-its-kind credentialing from TEMA to NFD we are certifying that we are better trained and equipped to handle various dangerous situations.”
The State Type 1 CBRNE team designation is the result of more than 10 years of rigorous training, strategic equipment acquisition, and thorough audits conducted by both state and federal agencies. The Nashville Fire Department has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in preparing for and responding to incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosive threats.
