In partnership with Tennessee State University, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee (BBBSMT) hosted its second EmpowerU micro-mentoring session on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The event featured a resume workshop led by HR expert Deirdre Orr, followed by micro-mentoring sessions where 23 TSU students engaged with mentors in interactive discussions and networking. 

“EmpowerU is about opening doors, connecting students with mentors who understand the journey they’re on, and helping them see and reach their fullest potential,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee CEO Melissa Hudson-Gant. “As we continue to work with Tennessee State University, I’m inspired by the dedication of our mentors and students who come together in these sessions, building a strong foundation for each student’s success.” 

In September, BBBSMT launched the College Advancement Program (CAP) at TSU, pairing mentors with first- and second-year students based on shared interests, experiences, and goals. Mentees meet virtually with mentors weekly and attend in-person sessions, including EmpowerU, which provides micro-mentoring opportunities open to all TSU students. EmpowerU sessions, held twice per semester, feature guest speakers, group mentoring, and networking activities led by professionals from Middle Tennessee.
