Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) celebrated the achievements of its graduating seniors at the third annual University MNPS Signing Day on April 26 at The Parthenon in Centennial Park.
The event honored seniors who earned full-tuition scholarships to local partner institutions, including Tennessee State University, Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, Fisk University, Belmont University, and Nashville State Community College. Students participated in a formal signing ceremony alongside MNPS Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, college and university leadership, and other city and school officials.
“Today is about celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our students and the bright futures that await them,” said Dr. Adrienne Battle. “University MNPS is about opening doors and ensuring that higher education is accessible to every student who dreams of it.”
University MNPS is an initiative designed to expand post-secondary pathways by partnering with local colleges and universities to provide full-tuition scholarships and additional support services for students.
In addition to recognizing the students’ achievements, MNPS announced a new partnership with Trevecca Nazarene University, expanding opportunities for future graduating classes.
Several schools shared their excitement about the event. Hunters Lane High School posted: “We had more Warriors present than we were able to photograph at today’s University MNPS Signing Day!” on social media.
Nashville State Community College also expressed their pride: “We had an amazing time welcoming new Falcons to our college community during the MNPS University program, which is a collaborative effort between MNPS and some of Nashville’s most renowned educational institutions,” the college posted on Facebook.
Through programs such as Trailblazing to TSU, Nashville Grad, Bell Tower Scholars, and Vanderbilt’s Nashville Vanderbilt Scholars, MNPS and its partners have worked to not only celebrate but also sustain students’ success beyond high school.
“University MNPS Signing Day isn’t just about one moment of recognition,” said Dr. Battle. “It’s about building a future where every student knows they have the support, encouragement, and opportunity to thrive in higher education and beyond.”
