Expressions of Faith: The outpouring part two

Acts 1:12–13 highlights the disciples’ obedience and preparation for Pentecost. This devotional teaches believers to pray, wait, and position themselves for God’s Spirit to empower Kingdom work.

Acts 1:12

12) Then they went back from the Mount of Olives. This mountain is about a half a mile from Jerusalem.

Acts chapter one and verse twelve describes the disciples returning to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives after Jesus’ ascension and departure into Heaven. You go to Jerusalem and you pray, get in the Word, and meditate for the outpouring of God’s Spirit. As My followers, you will receive the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and become filled and equipped to spread the good news (the Bible) to the world. You will restore God’s kingdom to the world and to the children of Israel. The disciples walked from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem, which was approximately 3 to 4 miles. This was the limit of travel permitted on the Sabbath in Jewish tradition. On the Sabbath you can’t work or travel. The only travel you could do was 1.2 kilometers, which is 3 to 4 miles only.

You can only travel within the permissible limit for Sabbath movement. Go back and receive from God what is for you as you go and tell this world about salvation in Jesus’ name. Teach salvation—the deliverance and rescue from sin or a difficult situation. My people need to come out of their difficult situations and be free in My name. There must be someone who is willing to lead My people back to a relationship with Me (God), through faith in Jesus Christ. There must be redemption, restoration, relationship, and a restored life. This is being restored to wholeness and soundness in spirit, mind, and body. This is the gift of God’s grace that is freely given and not earned through good works or deeds. So go back and get what is rightfully yours from the Father.

Acts 1:13

13) When they entered the city, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.

What is a waiting period?

It’s a timeline before an action can take place and a mandate that comes into place. A waiting period is an appointed time when God is promising to move on His people as they recognize their dependence on God’s power and are empowered for the work of the Kingdom of God. This very mission of the Kingdom is the life of the believers. Whatever you do, depend on God as you live this life that wins souls to God’s Kingdom. The disciples recognized their own limitations: we cannot do this without the outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit. We need God’s power for this mission, for we are not capable of doing it alone—we need God.

We will pray and seek God for what He has purposed us to fulfill. This time of prayer was crucial for the disciples; preparation for the ministry was going to be given to them. Prepare yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually for what is about to happen to you. This is an expectation that the disciples had, knowing that God was going to come through for them.

This is taking proactive steps to get ready for the move of God. This is going to happen, going to occur, and going to take place. Practical steps will lead to a better outcome and potential work. You will receive for the saving of souls. Whatever you do, position yourself for the move (outpouring) of God.
