Expressions of faith: Why we cry

Expressions of Faith: Why We Cry explores the spiritual meaning of tears as Bishop-Elect Dr. Monterey D. Lee Sr. reflects on how faith, pain, and healing shape our emotional lives

Bishop-Elect Dr. Monterey D. Lee, Sr.

“In the day of my trouble I will call [cry] upon thee [out to the]: for you will answer me. Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; neither are there any works like your works. All nations that you have made shall come and worship before thee, Lord; and all shall glorify your name,” Psalm 86:7.

There are times when trouble or pain in this life comes, and it is so great—the only thing we can do is cry out to God. We ask God to help us or protect us. When we feel so down and needy and need relief, all we can do is acknowledge the greatness of God and wait on Him for better days to come.

When you talk about God’s greatness, it’s a personal encounter with Him.

It isn’t enough to acknowledge what God is doing or has done in our lives. But the fact is that there is no one like Him. His words and actions have made worldwide impact since the beginning of creation.

In Psalm 66:4, the psalmist calls on the whole earth to worship the Lord. To worship means to bow down—to acknowledge God for everything.

This is why we take time each day to think of Him and thank Him for another opportunity to live a life of praise and worship to Him. His greatness is His awesomeness.

1) There is nothing or no one higher in the universe. He is ruler of all.

2) God is our Sovereign.

3)  God is Spirit. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23).

We are impacted by His greatness. He has absolute rule over all things; He has endless resources; He has unimaginable power to do as He pleases and for whomever He pleases; He is a King of all, and the One who upholds us.

This is why all nations shall come and worship Him and glorify His name.

All the nations you have made will come and bow down before you, Lord, and will honor your name.

God promises not to save the nations, but to save His people out of the nations and make them great

(Psalm 33:12).

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord Yahweh. The people He has chosen are His heritage.
