Duane Cherry receives prestigious award

(l to r): Angela Cherry, Duane Cherry, and Mayor Jerry Gist of Jackson, Tenn. Duane Cherry proudly accepts a proclamation form the mayor and city council of Jackson for state and nationwide recognition.

Duane Cherry is based in Jackson, Tenn. He is a staunch businessman, executive producer, and radio host. He is also the administrator/executive director of Mission Convalescent Home, Health, and Rehabilitation Center located in Jackson. Under his leadership, the facility has become one of the top 100% rated facilities in the country. He is a graduate of Lane College (Jackson) with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

In addition to mastering the previously mentioned areas of the healthcare industry, Cherry is the owner of Nursing Angels LLC, doing business as D&D Healthcare, an in-home non-medical care provider, and healthcare facilities management company. The company operates dually in Jackson and Nashville, Tennessee.

On May 10, Cherry was honored by the American College of HealthCare Administrators for his quality work ethic and service to the community with one of the most prestigious awards in existence: the Eli Pick Facilities and Leadership Award.

“This is no ordinary award, as only 11% of providers nationwide qualify,” said Cherry.

Out of the 1,717 facilities, it met the necessary qualifications, including 351 administrators. Duane Cherry made the cut for the entire state of Tennessee. Once Mayor Jerry Gist and city council members of Jackson learned this great news, they declared the day the ‘Duane Cherry Day’ and presented him with a proclamation to further honor his long-standing work with the Mission Convalescent Home, Health, and Rehabilitation Center.

It’s no secret that Cherry has long since defined and highlighted sure methods and service to sustain the quality of life and care to families and patients choosing his facility. The high honors and awards bestowed on Cherry for his years of commitment have not interfered with his kind spirit and levels of sincere humility. Through it all, Duane continues to thank God and remains humble and grateful, giving God the credit he shares with his team.

He has also given new meaning to term ‘multi-tasker’ by not only keeping a full schedule but by adding diversity to his already full schedule in the healthcare industry. One of the major pipelines of service to the community is granted via his popular Internet radio show Let’s Talk About It. His guests on the show have ranged from lay people, music artists, politicians and other industry leaders. One guest jokingly gave him the loving title of ‘Radio Angel’ taken from the chart-busting Gospel song ‘Thank God for the Radio Angels.’

He keeps this positive flow going with ending his radio shows with two quotes from musician, poet, songwriter, and social activist the late Gil Scott Herron: “No matter the consequences or the fear that grips your senses, you have got to hold on to your dreams. It is time for you to create the change and to stop always being about the change.”

He believes strongly in family and supporting family whenever possible, as evidenced by a successful partnership with his adult son, Chris. They are the co-owners of Everlasting Productions, a successful comedy production company producing comedy shows.

Duane Cherry is a very active member of his home church, the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson. He is a family man, married to the love of his life Angela Delores Cherry. Together they are the proud parents of three children: Tavares, Avril, and Chris; and they have seven grandchildren.
