Expressions of faith: Free

“If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed,” John 8:36.

Freedom is the desire of nearly every person on this earth. Today many people think they are free, but some don’t realize they are doing things that actually put them in bondage. Jesus is the only one who gives true freedom. There is nothing else on this earth that can bring deliverance to a people like He can. Praise the Lord for your freedom!

Let’s ponder some things that result in bondage. One of these is lust that we may hide for many years. We have no victory, and we fail repeatedly in this area. Rebellion can bring us into such bondage that we need the prayers of others to help us find our way to Jesus. If we are in bondage to ungodly living, we need deliverance that will come only through a life of surrendering to Jesus Christ. The state of being unforgiven will bind us so tightly that we can’t go forward in life. Yearning for the world’s pomp and pleasure will put us in an unlocked cage. Pride, desiring attention, bossiness, greed and evilness are other slave drivers.

If we see our own need and want deliverance at any cost, Jesus will set us free. Sometimes true freedom does not come until we humble ourselves and confess our sinful desires to our spiritual leaders. Unless we do, we will never be free. Confession and repentance are indispensable to finding true liberty in Jesus. Praise the Lord! He can set us free, but not to a false liberty that lets us do as we please. Rather, we will be ‘free indeed’ to live in obedience to the Word of God, which brings fulfillment and joy that only Jesus can give.
