Providing for God’s people

“When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’ He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, ‘Feed my lambs’ (v.16). A second time he said to him, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’ He said to him, ‘Yes Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, ‘Tend my sheep’ (v.17). He said to him the third time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ And he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep,’” John 21:15-17.

When Jesus questioned Simon Peter, if he really loved him; Jesus knew in his heart that Peter did. But he wanted to leave a commandment for him to do—to always take care of His people.

Jesus is also questioning us today to see if we love Him as well. Love is a verb and it is shown in our actions.

Are we really reaching out to meet the needs of those that are in need?

Are we reaching out to the poor and needy? What about the homeless that are standing on the side of the road?

Are we offering our resources to others?

Are we offering the use of our vehicles to those that don’t have transportation?

Are we reaching out to those that are spending relentless hours at the hospitals with their family members or friends?

Are we reaching out to those that are sick and in bereavement?

Are we reaching out to those that have lost their jobs to encourage them and to offer our support?

Are we reaching out to those parents with a child or children that are missing?

Are we reaching out to those that are on drugs or alcohol?

There is so much that we can do that will show our love for the Lord. Let’s think of opportunities to be a blessing to God’s people. Everything we have is a gift from God. And when we share what He has given us, we take part in even greater—BLESSINGS!
