Tariq Nasheed will be appearing in Nashville to promote his fascinating and highly thought-provoking documentary films Hidden Colors and Hidden Colors II. Nasheed produced the 2011 documentary film Hidden Colors on the history of African and aboriginal peoples. The film had a limited theatrical release around the United States before being made available on DVD. Nasheed’s follow-up film and DVD, Hidden Colors II: The Triumph of Melanin, was released in 2012. Both DVDs are readily available at Alkebu-Lan Images bookstore in north Nashville.

Hidden Colors is a documentary about the real and untold history of people of color around the globe. This film discusses some of the reasons the contributions of African and aboriginal people have been left out of the pages of history. Traveling around the country, the film features scholars, historians, and social commentators who uncovered amazing facts about things such as: the original image of Christ; the true story about the Moors; the original people of Asia; the great west African empires; the presence of Africans in America
before Columbus; the real reason slavery was ended; and much more.

“I tried to research as many of the facts as I could,” said Douglas Lewis. “I researched almost everything I saw and could not find any problems with what was discussed. I challenge you to do the same. It’s shocking, but a very accurate documentary. The problem with a movie like this is that it is so foreign to Americans of all cultures. It’s foreign because in the U.S., we are only taught mostly about European American history, which doesn’t include much on any other races. We are not taught history in American schools in depth. American history is inherently limited in nature. If you actually take the time to research the information covered here, it is scarily accurate.”

Nasheed, who is sometimes nicknamed Tariq Elite, King Flex or K-Flex, is an author, documentary film producer, media personality, satirist, Internet radio host, relationship expert, and social commentator—frequently focusing on the psychology of dating and African American social history. Nasheed’s books on dating and finding women include The Mack Within, The Elite Way, and The Art of Mackin, which has been called “something of a classic.” Nasheed has also authored two advice books for female readers: Play or Be Played: What Every Female Should Know About Men, Dating, and Relationships and The Art of Gold Digging.

He has been quoted on a wide array of issues, including race relations, intimate relationships and infidelity, and U.S. politics and campaign finance. Nasheed has also been a regular speaker on college campuses on the topics of sex and relationships. His television appearances include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, MTV’s Made, Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School, and the Current TV series Joe Gets.

Doors open at TSU’s Gentry Center at 7 pm, and Nasheed takes the stage at 8 pm on September 21.
