A kickoff event for new seasons of ‘ArtQuest: Art Is All Around You,” a series of short broadcast segments focused on developing children’s creativity, will take place Nov. 17 at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet the star hosts of ‘ArtQuest,’ Dajiah Platt and Joseph Lopez, as well as enjoy live music, programs and take-home art activities. ‘ArtQuest’ is a collaborated effort by Nashville Public Television and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.
As the brainchild of Frist Center Chairman Emeritus Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr., the series is a direct product of the institution’s vision statement “to inspire people through art to look at their world in new ways.”
The series takes its name of the Frist Center’s interactive learning gallery for children of all ages, is geared toward viewers 7-9 years old and airs 4-6 pm on NPT around the popular programs Arthur, WordGirl, Wild Kratts, and The Electric Company.
The 2012 pilot program received more than three million gross impressions on air and positive feedback from focus groups made of children, parents and teachers. The first season of 15 with segments such as ‘color in nature,’ ‘lines in architecture’ and ‘creating public art’ are now available at Free admission to guests with donations of non-perishable food The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will continue its holiday tradition of offering free admission to guests bringing non-perishable food items to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee on Mondays through December 30. The items most needed by Second Harvest are peanut butter, canned meat, canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and cereal.
“We anticipate an increase in demand for the next several months due to cuts to Food Stamp distributions,” said Jaynee Day, president/CEO of Second Harvest. “Food donations will help us respond to the need and ensure that families can put food on the table every night.”
