The Nashville Shakespeare Festival is bringing one of its most popular productions, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) to Belmont University’s Troutt Theatre April 10-13.

“For people who love Shakespeare this show is very funny, and for people who hate Shakespeare it’s even funnier,” said Denice Hicks, who is directing this 90-minute parody of all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays. Hicks also serves as artistic director for the Nashville Shakespeare Festival.

The comedy, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, stars Brad Brown, Chris Campbell and Jaye Phelps, who is a new addition to the three-person cast.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Shakespeare’s 450th birthday than to have three guys do all of his plays at the same time,” Hicks said. “The script will be updated with current events and local references. Jaye played Flute and Thisby last summer in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Hicks also said she looks forward to directing this highly interactive show at the Troutt Theatre for the first time.

Evening performances begin at 7:30 pm on April 10, 11 and 12. Public matinees are scheduled April 12 and 13 at 2:30 pm.

The play is recommended for ages seven and older.

The mission of the Nashville Shakespeare Festival is to educate and to entertain the mid-South community through professional Shakespearean performances throughout the year.
