Company set for TPAC’s Andrew Johnson Theatre

Stephan Sondheim’s Company, a musical contemporary look at relationships will play the Andrew Johnson Theatre in the Tennessee Performing Arts building March 20 through April 12. Stephen Sondheim is considered to be the most significant creative force in musical theatre during the past half-century—and Company is one of his most ‘electric’ and dynamic works.

On his 35th birthday, Bobby (a commitment-phobic bachelor) searches for the answers to love and life in New York City. While enjoying the company of some lovely ladies, he observes both the joys and pitfalls of marriage from his five quirky couple friends. But is he ready? Only Bobby can find the answer in this witty and piercing examination of matrimony. Because how else can you treat marriage, but as a comedy?

The clashing sounds and pulsing rhythms of New York City underscore this landmark multiple Tony Award-winner, considered by many to have inaugurated the modern era of musical theatre. Company delivers an honest, witty, sophisticated look at relationships, and is as contemporary and relevant as ever while featuring a brilliant energetic score containing many of Sondheim’s best-loved songs.

Company tickets may be purchased at a discount as part of a package. Celebrate Sondheim, the most significant creative force in musical theatre during the past half-century, and guarantee your seats to Tennessee Rep’s production of Sweeney Todd in October. The Sondheim Package includes one ticket for Company and one ticket for Sweeney Todd per subscription.

For tickets or subscriptions, call TPAC at 615-782-4040 or e-mail boxoffice@tpac.org.

There is no late seating in the Johnson Theatre for this event. Late arrivals will be seated after intermission.
