Continuing its mission to bring Nashville cutting edge theatre, as well as performance opportunities for young people, Street Theatre Company presents Carrie: The Musical from October 3-12.
Based on Stephen King’s 1974 horror novel, Carrie tells the story of a shy teenage girl living in a world of bullies. After a practical joke goes too far, Carrie then uses her telekinetic powers to bring about her revenge. With a brilliant book by Lawrence D. Cohen, haunting lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and beautifully complex music by Michael Gore, this revamped version of the 1988 Broadway musical is the perfect outing right before Halloween.
Carrie is directed by Street Theatre’s artistic director, Cathy Street, with music directed by Randy Craft, and choreographed by DeVon Buchanan. 9:21 AMhe play introduces Belmont student Alie B. Carrie will be Street Theatre Company’s final main stage performance of the season, and, more importantly, its final main stage performance in its current Elm Hill Pike location. For the past four years, Street has made the warehouse its home, and now it seeks a new location before announcing its 2015 season. Street Theatre Company has been voted Nashville’s number one regional theatre (The Nashville Scene), and in this vein the company seeks Nashville’s support and patience as they continue their search for a new home.
