Tigers bounce back

Michael German stood out yet again this past weekend for the Tigers of Tennessee State University. He threw for 395 yards and four touchdowns, including one to Isaiah Freeman with 34 seconds left in the contest. A comeback win for the Big Blue, 31-27, ruined the Governors’ homecoming. The Tigers overcame three turnovers and 15 penalties to end a five game losing streak.

“We needed that,” said a jubilant female fan on Saturday night, decked out in her TSU attire.

German went 30 of 46 for the game. After falling behind 17-3, German and Weldon Garlington made their WWE debut, tag teaming the Governors for touchdowns of 58, 24 and four yards, all in the second half. Garlington ended the game with eight receptions for 143 yards. With that, Michael German became the school leader in completions with 627. Ryan Mitchell added six receptions for 81 yards.

The Governors, now 1-9, were penalized a timeout in each quarter because of their special camouflage uniforms. The uniforms displayed the nicknames of nearby Fort Campbell units on the back. Trey Taylor and the Governors had a very balanced attack throughout the evening. However, they were unable to hold on.

With an unusual end of the season bye week, the Big Blue end their season in two weeks (right before Thanksgiving) in Kentucky. They battle the Murray State Racers at Roy Kidd Stadium on November 22 at 1 pm.
