Kennie Playhouse Theatre (KPT) and Church of the Messiah is having an encore performance of the 2014 stage play Sanctified by Javon Johnson, on Friday, December 26, at 7 pm at Church of The Messiah, 88 Lafayette, Nashville, TN 37210.

This show has proven to be KPT’s audience favorite of the year and promises to leave its audience laughing and singing with joy. Javon Johnson’s spiritually uplifting musical comedy will play for one night only in collaboration with Church of The Messiah under the leadership of Rev. Bryan Williams, Sr.

Written by Javon Johnson and directed by Kenny Dozier, Sanctified offers a comical yet compelling glimpse into the heart of a small, southern, Black Baptist church and its beloved con-gregants. Few in number they may be, but East Piney Grove Baptist Church is one flock of born again, baptized believers whose convictions are heavily rooted in tradition and dead set against change.

Does the young and newly elected interim pastor, Harold P. Jones, have what it takes to usher in a fiery spirit of revival in an effort to restore the church’s lukewarm reputation? Will his decision to enlist his (diva wanna be) cousin to assist with a much needed gospel explosion take away the last and only leg the church has left to stand on—or does East Piney Grove already have a ram in the bush?

Though pushed to the brink, all is not lost. See how this struggling, African American, South Carolinian church is forced to see themselves for who they truly are and agree to unite together for a mighty work in the Lord through song.

The play features Kenny Dozier both as an actor and director. Music director is Bryan ‘B.J.’ Williams, Jr . Cast members include: Demetrius Jones, Bryant Thompson, Calvin Atchinson, William Jenkins, Jerrold Edwards, Stephanie Adkerson, LaJuanda Thompson, LaQualla Tatum, Shante King, Tamica Harris, Monique Henderson, Jonathon Garner, and Miles Slay.

This is great fun for the whole family!

Tickets are $10. Call 615-730-0581 or 615-525-4926; or visit www.brownpapertickets.com or www.kennieplayhousetheatre.com
