Expressions of Faith
Men who suppress the truth

Rev. William Watson
Rev. William Watson

My last commentary was about two ways to go in this life and how Christians compromise the truth, which is sin. Most Christians understand that sin is punishable by the wrath of God. What they do not understand is God’s wrath is being revealed everyday of our lives. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness,” Romans 1:18.

Notice it did not say the wrath of God will be revealed one day at the end of the world? No, this is an accurate translation. The wrath of God is at this moment being revealed from heaven against all the godless wickedness of men. Of course, concurrently the love of God is also now being revealed from heaven upon everybody in constant blessings. The frequency of the references in the Bible to the wrath of God demand we take it seriously. Observe the word ‘all’ in this scripture. It is against all the godlessness and wickedness of the men who do these things.

Nothing is exempt: God’s wrath targets the individual sinner’s sin, including: the heartless way we have behaved, and wrath towards all that is evil. It is not just wrath towards those who caused the destruction in the trenches of World Wars I and II, but wrath on the suffering of the child in the womb as it is killed. The wrath is on all the godlessness and wickedness of men. The Bible is filled with many examples of God’s wrath and it’s consequences. We are told by Jude how God cast the rebel angels He created out of heaven into everlasting darkness. Peter tells us that God’s judgment didn’t save the angels that sinned. They were cast down into hell. This is one of the greatest examples of divine wrath we have.

And what’s most fearful is the Lord left them no room for repentance. God will certainly punish sin. Look at society today, then read verses 26 through 32. You will be looking at a civilization under the wrath of God being revealed.
