Mayor Megan Barry made one of her first appearances as mayor during a celebration for 100-year-old Rhuel Johnson at Cathedral of Praise Church Sunday, September 27.
Rhuel Johnson is a vital 100-year-old member of the Nashville community who still walks into church every Sunday morning. Her life and health is something to celebrate.
Mayor Barry was received with a standing ovation by the congregation at Cathedral of Praise as she spoke directly to Rhuel Johnson. Mayor Barry commented that this was a week of firsts: “The first time I’ve met someone who is 100, and first woman to become mayor of Nashville.”
She also spoke of Rhuel’s dedication and vibrant life and that they both have good tastes in color—blue!
Bishop Jerry L. Maynard commented: “This shows exactly the type of person that Mayor Barry is. She took time from her schedule to honor one individual. She is for all of Nashville.”
