Meharry Medical College held its 140th annual Convocation Monday, Oct. 12. Metro Nashville Mayor Megan Barry was the keynote speaker. During the Convocation, four students received full scholarships: Carlton Baskin, a second year student from Madison, Ala., School of Graduate Studies and Research; Trakendra Irby, second year student from Horn Lake, Miss., Meharry’s School of Graduate Studies and Research; Francheska Desravines, senior in the School of Medicine, from Miami, Fla.; and Pashe Sanders, a senior in the School of Dentistry.
Three distinguished alumni received recognition: Dr. Ruth E. Ross, was honored with the Fred C. Fielder Distinguished Dentist Award; Dr. James F. Densler received the Axel C. Hansen Distinguished Physician Award; and Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D., received the Harold D. West Distinguished Biomedical Scientist Award.
