An old fashioned three-week revival began Dec. 1 at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.), located at 901 40th Ave. N.
Rev. Eddie Sneed is spearheading the long-term revival at St. Luke as a first effort to create a revival in a neighborhood collaboration. It’s the business of churches getting together to do the work of ‘saving souls.’ Sneed was a long-term pastor at St. Luke but was assigned to another church last year. However, following a short time away from St. Luke under a different leadership, he has been recently re-assigned to St. Luke.In an effort to restructure and “restore order and a cohesive atmosphere” that the members of St. Luke are accustomed to, Rev. Sneed has begun with a revival.
The three-week revival is composed of three program components, including: prayer, praise and proclamation. From December 1-4 the first phase began with prayer. Prayer services were held each day. The week of December 8-11 held services dedicated to praise. Nightly services focused on giving praise. And the last week will continue on December 15-18 with the proclamation. The services of proclamation will host a variety of preachers at each service to proclaim the word.
The invited speakers are preaches, pastors, evangelists and other clergy in the community. This is a part of the effort to collaborate with neighborhood churches and area ministries. During this time of revival, St. Luke and its members are asking all churches to collectively give special prayer on one accord for healing in the churches; curbing the effects of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart trouble; cooperation and fellowship among the churches in the Preston Taylor Community; heightened family worth of family members; curbing of violence and conflicts to be resolved without ‘killing.’ By implementing these programs, church attendance and growth is expected to increase (specifically, an increase in the Preston Taylor neighborhood is expected). The presence of the church and its influence should be felt in the community with an increase in attendance of 10% is expected. The reduction of death rate by murders should be significantly reduced. No young person should lose their life from senseless violence during this period of revival, and all violence should be noticeably curbed.
As Rev. Eddie Sneed has returned with great efforts to increase church membership and neighborhood activities, a pastoral reception will be held on December 20.
