This ministry was touched by the love of Christ over 12 years ago with a weekly commentary in this newspaper. A seed was planted for me to teach the meaning of intercessory prayer, and what it means to be born again. I believe that very few Christians have the assurance of the promises of God to know that they are going to heaven. We must understand the power of intercessory prayer. God can use each of us as intercessors for our families, our neighbors, our church, our community, our country and the world. Scriptures admonish us to pray for one another. “Confess your faults one to another that ye may be healed. The effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much,” James 5:16. “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ,” Galatians 6:2.

If you know somebody that has a need, go that second mile (Matthew 5:41) and pray for them. Stand in the gap for them. Listen for the voice of God. He may be calling you in the ministry of intercessory prayer. It’s through prayer and the word of God that we are assured of our salvation. The Bible speaks of four basic categories: 1) Those who think they are saved, but are not (Matthew 7:21-3); 2) those we think are saved, but are not (I John 2:18-19); 3) those who are saved, but don’t act like it (I John 5:11-13); and 4) those who are saved and they do act like it.

Many Christians assume they are saved by their works. In my teaching of God’s word, we are never to assume anything. A lot of Christians are not born again because they have merely been hearers of the word of God and not doers, thereby deceiving themselves.
