Expressions of faith: A mother’s love

Who can put a price on a mother’s love for her children? From the time of inception, the bond of maternal love grows. It reaches its peak when you hear that first cry and the baby is placed in your arms. Sometimes some are placed in the role of mothers as adopted mothers, grandmothers and others—but the responsibility is the same. With motherhood comes the huge responsibility of nurturing and guiding these young ones to be decent, honorable, respectful and responsible adults. However, the foundation of this is love.

The Bible tells us to train up a child in the way he or she should go. When he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
Most children learn by example, meaning we as parents must set boundaries of discipline—teaching a love for God and others. We must show understanding when problems occur and support tempered with love. Motherly virtues are often compassion and comfort for her children.

The fact that God would use a human mother to bring His Son into the world has bestowed upon motherhood its greatest honor.
Mary’s love for Jesus followed Him through His childhood to the cross (John 19:25-27).

Although a special day is set aside to honor mothers, everyday should be a celebration of a mother’s love. We pray all a ‘happy Mother’s Day.’

My weekly prayer is that the reader of this commentary becomes spiritually inspired of God. Contact: Expressions of Faith at P.O. Box 330127, Nashville, Tenn. 37203; or e-mail . God bless!
