After celebrating 50 years this past summer, Cathedral of Praise Church continues to use innovative approaches to ministry in order to spread the Good News. Led by Bishop Jerry L. Maynard, for the past 23 years, the church used the last month of 2016 to spread cheer and charity to the Nashville community on an even greater level.
Kicking off the month of December was the 75th birthday celebration for the leader, Bishop Maynard. Special speakers included: Bishop Nathiel Wells; Bishop Milton R. Hawkins; and the Bishop’s namesake, Rev. Jerry L Maynard II. Additionally, community leaders such as Mayor Megan Barry, Congressman Jim Cooper and District 1 Councilman Nick Leonardo arrived to share greetings for the platinum occasion.
The following Sunday, those who drove by Kings Lane and Clarksville Pike received a sign like no other. The newly established Street Sign Ministry was outside, along with the church’s 8 am choir, holding signs of love and singing songs of encouragement in traditional choir regalia.
The public waved, honked their horns, rolled down their windows to hear the songs, yelled out encouraging words and even recorded the site.
The Evangelism Ministry was also stationed in the church’s parking lot, ready and willing to pray with those who desired prayer. That same week, the non-profit group City of Life Community Development Center, created by Bishop Maynard, hosted a holiday toy drive. Partnering with Toys For Tots, the month long toy collection allowed church and community members the opportunity to donate to children for the Christmas Season.
Bishop Maynard affectionately penned the church’s motto as ‘Maximize Your Potential,’ even releasing a book based on this premise in 2002.
Nearly 15 years later, it is clear that members and ministry leaders have grasped this concept and desire to personify the slogan to its fullest capacity.
Cathedral of Praise will close out the month and year with its final service of 2016 on Saturday, December 31, beginning at 9:45 pm.
All are invited to attend and bring in the New Year with praise and a fresh perspective.
