The 118th division of Psalms is considered to be the center of the Bible. The eighth verse states: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” This scripture captures a great part of what is happening in our society today. This last election was hard fought, nasty, immoral, and brutal. But our scripture says God is in control of all things. God chooses and uses whom He pleases. Remember Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that My Name might be proclaimed in all the earth,” Romans 9:17.
The world has produced a countless number of smart men, politically and religiously, and most of them made the same mistake. They out-smarted themselves. Remember the early ‘80s, (Ronald Reagan) when the religious right was strong. There were groups like the Moral Majority, and the Christian Coalition, with men like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and James Dobson who were powerful national religious figures. They were bragging how they got Reagan elected, and they saw prayer being returned to the schools. Abortion would be made illegal again. Homosexuals would be driven back into their closets. But what happen? Nothing. The results caused a great deal of disappointment and disillusionment for some. The problem was they put their hopes too much in a man, as a political savior, and took their eyes off the only True Savior, Jesus Christ.
The same thing happens in many of our churches today. Our eyes become focused on the man, whom God uses for His own perfect will—not man’s will. “Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who can not save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that vary day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,” Psalm 146:3-5.
I urge that your requests, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for everyone—that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in Godliness and holiness (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
