SMBC host Women’s Day 2017

Second Missionary Baptist Church (SMBC) continues to be a community staple and to share interactive events and programs. On Sunday, July 9, the church hosted their annual Women’s Day service. Rev. Michele Roberts Morton was the guest speaker. The church sanctuary and fellowship hall was a sea of white, as this was the color of the day.‘The Wisdom of a Christian Woman – Spoken with Kindness’ was this year’s theme.

Rev. Michele Roberts Morton is a beautiful, soft-spoken, powerful woman and influence in Nashville’s Christian community. She answered her call into ordained ministry after serving actively in the United Methodist Church all her life. She received her Masters of Divinity from The Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon United Methodist Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.Rev. Morton was ordained in June 2012 as an Elder in full connection in the United Methodist Church, Tennessee Annual Conference.

After serving as associate pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, Tennessee, Rev. Morton is currently appointed as the ‘campus minister’ at Tennessee State University directing the campus ministry at the Wesley Foundation. This ministry is growing tremendously with vitality and experiencing increasing student participation. The Wesley Foundation offers spiritual guidance to young adults through weekly worship services, Bible studies, and small covenant groups, as well as leadership training for young adults on campus and in the community. She also serves as an ‘internship supervisor’ with the Vanderbilt Divinity School.

Her career has been a remarkable one with many different experiences, most of them being in the field of education and training. She has worked in government, private industry, non-profit, in educational television and as a business owner. Morton has also written Sunday school curriculum published by the United Methodist Publishing House.
