The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) one of Nashville’s oldest and longest existing organizations recently the announced its ‘Coming Together…Unity in Action’ Life Membership Luncheon. The celebration will recognize Life and Subscribing Life members. It will be held at the Cal Turner Family Center located at 1011 21st Avenue North, Nashville, Tenn. 37208, at Meharry Medical College on Tuesday, September 12. The event begins at 11 am and runs until 1 pm. Registration begins promptly at 10:30 am.
The esteemed honorary co-chairs are Ladonna Boyd, chief operations officer of R.H. Boyd Publishing; Dr. Deborah Cole, president/CEO of Citizens Bank; Dr. James Hildreth, president of Meharry Medical College; and Butch Spyridon, president of the Convention and Visitors Corporation. They will come together for this event in order to honor community leaders. The program will announce the Dr. Charles E. Kimbrough Medal of Honor, along with the President’s Award and three Legacy Awards.
“We’re excited to honor people who have dedicated their lives to bridging the gap between people of all backgrounds in our community,” said state Rep. Brenda Gilmore who serves as the first vice president of the Nashville Branch, and serves as chairwoman of the luncheon. “There are many people who continue to make civic contributions to improve our community and they deserve to be recognized for their work.”
The organization is pleased to acknowledge and celebrate community members who show dedication to the mission of the NAACP by revealing recipients of the Presidential and Legacy Awards, as well as the Dr. Charles E. Kimbrough Medal of Honor at the luncheon. The NAACP Nashville Branch invites the community to nominate persons for two of the esteemed honors by submitting nominations.

The NAACP is for the advancement of all people and we are proud to demonstrate that Nashvillians are unified in numbers, and together we can achieve more through action.”
