Celebrate Black History Month by enjoying the music of one of the greatest bands in history played by one of the finest tribute bands on the planet. Nationally touring show “Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire” will be at Nashville’s 3rd and Lindsley on Thursday, February 15th. They will perform, featuring the tight rhythm section and spot-on vocal treatments of the lush vocal harmonies that are the hallmark of Earth Wind & Fire’s music, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
“Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire” is the concept and dream of lead vocalist Thomas “Chazz” Smith, who had a vision to carry on Maurice White’s positive, fun-loving, musical messages of love and unity during this time of social, racial, and political unrest.
“The music of Earth Wind & Fire does not talk [negatively] about women,” says Smith, “It does not talk about the rims on our cars; it’s not talking about our bling. It is feel-good music that is uplifting and is all about sharing the LOVE.”
Maurice White passed away in February 2016 from Parkinson’s disease and former EWF guitarist for 14 years, Sheldon Reynolds, shockingly found himself also battling Parkinson’s as did his band mate. Mr. Reynolds strongly endorses Kalimba, and actually performed with them in Nashville at 3rd & Lindley on August 4, 2016. It was a magnificent evening and the performance was memorable, esp. when Sheldon did his thing.
“Out of the thousand other groups I’ve heard play this material, Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire is the first show that gets it like it’s supposed to be played,” Reynolds says when asks why he is so excited about this group.
The show’s lineup will consist of Thomas “Chazz” Smith, lead vocals; Tyriq Johnson, lead vocals (Philip Bailey parts); Michael Cole, guitar/vocals; Walter Finch, guitar; Dereke James, bass guitar; Jeff Lund, keyboards/vocals; and Joshua Donald on drums.
